Embed Pages
Add a page to your portal's sidebar that shows another website inside the portal, either one address for everyone or each user's own address from their profile.
Overview
An embed page is a page in your portal's sidebar that shows another website instead of records from a table. A user clicks it in the sidebar and the site opens inside the portal, under your portal's header, so they can use it without leaving the portal.
Use it for anything you have built or host elsewhere: a calculator, a dashboard, a booking page, a report.
An embed page shows one of two things:
- Same for everyone. One address, such as
https://dashboards.example.com/credit-mapping. - From each user's profile. The address is read from a field on each user's own row in your user table, so every user sees their own dashboard.
Adding One
- 1
Add a page
In the portal admin, click Add page under the page list, then choose Embed page.
- 2
Choose where the address comes from
For Same for everyone, paste the page's address. It must start with
https://.For From each user's profile, pick the field on your user table that holds each user's address, then add the sites those addresses are on, such as
dashboards.example.com. Use*.example.comto allow every subdomain. You can paste a full link and we keep just the site. - 3
Name it and give it an address
The name is what the sidebar shows. The page URL is where it opens in your portal, such as
/your-portal/dashboard. An embed page always needs one, because it has no table to open at.
Save the portal and the page appears in the sidebar.
Settings
Open the page from the page list to change what it shows, its name, its icon, its address, and who sees it.
Who sees it works per role on a portal with roles. Turn it off for a role and that role has no sidebar entry for the page, and its address does not open for them.
Allow camera and microphone is off by default. Turn it on only for a page that needs them, such as a video call.
An embed page can also be your portal's landing page, which you set on the Design tab.
Pages From Each User's Profile
A user sees the page only when their profile field holds an address on one of your allowed sites. When the field is empty, or holds an address on any other site, the page is not in their sidebar at all, and its address does not open for them.
So you can roll a dashboard out gradually: fill in the field for the users who have one, and everyone else simply does not see the page.
The address is checked on our server and only the page itself is sent to the browser, so the field can be one end users can't see on their profile.
When a Site Won't Show
Some sites refuse to be shown inside another site. When we can tell that a site does this, the page says it can't be shown inside the portal and offers an Open in a new tab button instead of a blank box.
If it is your own site, look for a setting that allows embedding, often called an allowed domain, an iframe option, or a frame-ancestors setting, and add your portal's address. Then reload the page. We remember a site's answer for up to an hour.
If your portal is itself embedded in your own website, the site has to allow that website too. We only check your portal's address, so in that case the browser may show its own "refused to connect" message instead of ours.
Security
- A page from each user's profile only shows addresses on the sites you list, because anyone who can edit your Airtable base can change what is in the field.
- The embedded site can't navigate the portal away or replace it.
- The camera and microphone are off unless you turn them on.
The embedded site belongs to whoever runs it, and so do its privacy terms. Showing it inside the portal tells that site someone opened it, the same as following the link would.
