Accessibility statement
Last updated: 13 August 2026
Our commitment
CollabPortals is committed to making our product usable by as many people as possible, including people who use assistive technology. We are working towards conformance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.
We are not there yet. This statement sets out honestly where we currently stand, what we know is broken, and when we expect to fix it.
Conformance status
CollabPortals is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. "Partially conformant" means some parts of the product do not fully conform to the standard.
We publish a detailed Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR) using the VPAT 2.4 Rev 508 template. It is available on request from hello@collabportals.com and lists our status against every applicable success criterion.
What currently works well
The product is built on Radix UI primitives, which gives us a solid baseline:
- Dialogs and side panels trap focus correctly, close on Escape, and return focus to where you were
- Forms for creating and editing records have properly associated labels, and validation errors are linked to their fields
- Data tables use real table markup, and record detail pages use real description lists
- All images carry alternative text, and icon-only buttons carry accessible names
- Success and error notifications are announced through a live region
Known limitations
We are aware of the following, and each has a target date below:
- Clicking a table row is a mouse-only shortcut. In the table view, clicking anywhere on a row opens that record, and the row itself is not focusable. Opening a record does not require a mouse: every row also has a "View record" button that works with the keyboard. We are replacing that icon button with a named link, so the target reads as the record's own name rather than a generic label.
- Portal login fields rely on placeholder text instead of labels, and login errors are not announced by screen readers.
- There is no "skip to main content" link, so keyboard users tab through the whole sidebar on each page.
- Kanban and calendar drag-and-drop are pointer-only. Workaround: open the record and change the same field from the edit dialog, which is fully keyboard accessible.
- Color contrast is not currently guaranteed. Portal owners choose their own brand colors, and we do not yet enforce a minimum contrast ratio. Some brand color choices produce text and focus indicators below the WCAG AA threshold.
- The page language is fixed to English regardless of the language of the portal's content.
What we are doing about it
| Phase | Work | Target |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Labels and announced errors on portal login, and a named link on each table row | 30 September 2026 |
| 2 | Skip link, landmark and heading structure, keyboard-accessible drag-and-drop | 31 October 2026 |
| 3 | Enforced minimum contrast for themed colors, including a warning in the admin color picker | 31 December 2026 |
| 4 | Manual testing with screen readers, keyboard-only navigation and magnification, then a reissued conformance report | 31 January 2027 |
We are also adding automated accessibility checks to our build so that these problems do not come back.
Assessment approach
Our current self-assessment is based on a systematic code and markup review of the end-user portal, carried out in August 2026, supported by automated axe-core checks in our test suite.
We want to be clear about the limits of that: we have not yet carried out manual testing with screen readers, magnification, or keyboard-only navigation at scale, and we have not commissioned a third-party audit. Phase 4 above covers this, and we will update both this statement and the conformance report once it is done.
Compatibility
CollabPortals is a web application and should work with current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari. It has not yet been formally tested against specific screen reader and browser combinations.
Feedback
If you hit an accessibility barrier in CollabPortals, please tell us. We treat accessibility reports as priority issues.
Email: hello@collabportals.com
We aim to acknowledge within 2 business days and give you a plan or a workaround within 10 business days.
If you need information from a portal in a different format, or need help completing a task you cannot complete in the interface, contact us and we will find a way to get it to you.
Please include the portal address, what you were trying to do, and the browser and assistive technology you were using. That helps us reproduce the problem quickly.
Enforcement
If you are not happy with our response, you can escalate to the organization that operates the portal you are using, since they are our customer and the data controller. If you would like us to be involved in that conversation, we are happy to be.
