New: Custom Colors and Favicons for Your Portal

Set your CollabPortals portal's primary and background colors and upload a custom favicon, so it carries your brand end to end. Plus a configurable record name field and column sorting for portal users.

A portal you hand to clients or your team should look like yours. Until now that meant a logo and not much else. This release adds the rest of the branding: your own colors and a custom favicon. Two smaller changes round it out.

Theme Colors

Open a portal's settings and you will find a new Design tab. Alongside the logo upload, there are now two color controls:

  • Primary is your brand color. It drives buttons, links, focus highlights, and the active item in the sidebar.
  • Background is the color behind the portal's content and sidebar. It defaults to white; switch it on to use a tint of your own.

Each one is a swatch you click to open a picker. The picker has preset swatches, a full spectrum picker for any color, and a hex field for when you know the exact value.

Text color adjusts itself. Whatever primary or background color you choose, CollabPortals picks a readable text color to sit on top, so the portal stays legible without you checking contrast by hand. The result is a portal that carries your palette end to end, with no theme editor to wrestle and no CSS to write.

Custom Favicon

You can now upload a favicon, the small icon in the browser tab. Portals used to show the CollabPortals icon there. Now the tab can carry your brand like the rest of the portal.

The favicon uploader sits next to the logo in the Design tab. A square PNG or ICO, 32x32 or larger, works best.

The logo, the colors, and the favicon are all covered in Portal Branding.

Who Custom Branding Helps Most

Branding matters most when the people opening the portal are not your team. If they are clients, customers, or members, the portal is part of how they experience your business, and one that looks like yours builds more trust than a generic tool with someone else's name on it.

A few examples:

If the portal is internal, branding matters less, but it is included either way.

How CollabPortals Branding Compares

Branding is one of the clearest places the Airtable portal tools differ.

Some gate it behind their top tiers. Airtable's own Interface Designer cannot remove Airtable's branding at all, and the Airtable Portals add-on only unlocks it on the Business plan at $45 per user per month. Others fold branding into a full app builder, so you take on the price and setup of a broad platform to get it: Softr, Glide, and Pory all offer deep theme control as one part of a much larger tool.

CollabPortals includes the logo, colors, and favicon on every plan, at $10 per month flat. You get the branding that makes a portal look like yours, without paying up a tier or carrying an app builder to get it.

More in This Release

Two other changes shipped alongside the branding work.

Configurable record name. Every record shows a name on cards, calendar events, and detail headings. It used to always be the first column of your Airtable table, so if that column held an ID or a code, the portal looked broken. You can now pick which field is the record name. See Record Name.

Column sorting for portal users. Anyone viewing a portal table can now click a column header to sort by it, ascending then descending. Admins can still set a default sort; a user's click just overrides it for their current view. See Viewing Records.

Try It

All of this is live now and included on every plan. Open a portal, go to the Design tab, and give it your colors. If there is branding you still want that we do not offer yet, the public roadmap is the place to ask.
